Company Mission

BRELYON is a series A startup offering the world’s first headset-free virtual display to replace multimonitors or headsets in high-bandwidth enterprise applications like teleoperations, data visualization, operations centers, and simulation training. The technology combines novel physics, computational display techniques, and deep learning to create and render depth and panorama, emulating an IMAX-like experience in a 32” monitor form factor. Our goal is to enhance the human-computer experience by operating on light and optimizing visual perception. (See the video here.)

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our innovations in next-generation display technology. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in computational optics, modern software tools, and AR/VR systems, with a proven track record of bringing advanced display solutions from concept to production. Such a candidate can manage and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, solve problems, and think strategically to develop a technical roadmap, bringing technology from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Brelyon’s engineering team (optical, software, electrical, and mechanical) to develop world-class immersive display products.
  • Oversee R&D, design, prototyping, and testing of product architectures and rendering tools.
  • Collaborate with product management and executive leadership to align technology strategies with business objectives.
  • Recruit and mentor team members to foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Build partnerships with suppliers, research labs, and industry collaborators to advance core technologies.
  • Ensure product performance, manufacturability, and scalability from R&D through mass production.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in optical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of industry engineering experience, including engineering management roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in computational optics for display or imaging systems.
  • Deep understanding of software, image processing, deep learning, and computer vision to drive innovation and product excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of various design tools and modern programming languages (Zemax, Code V, SolidWorks, Python, C++).
  • Knowledge of multiple manufacturing methods: die casting, injection molding, lamination processing, and the like.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills.
  • Quick adaptability to new challenges and strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Self-motivation and organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple projects.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Background experience, publications, or patents in AR/VR or computational imaging.
  • Understanding of human vision or experience with perceptual optimization of displays.
  • Prior work with GPUs, FPGAs, or other high-performance computational modules for image processing
  • Experience scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced startup or high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools.
